Sunglass Lens Tint Spice things up by choosing a lens color to match the frame or to enhance your vision. All sunglass lenses are tinted to cut down on overall brightness and enhance terrain definition.

Your choice of tint colors affect your vision by influencing:
  • How much visible light reaches your eyes
  • How well you see other colors
  • How well you see contrasts
There are several general rules to follow. For any sport or activity in bright sunlight you need a sunglass tint color that blocks most of the light such as brown, green, or gray; see the bottom three rows of the chart.

If it is NOT a bright sunny day then you can consider the lighter tint colors in the first two rows of the chart. The lighter tints offer less overall brightness protection but do provide excellent depth perception and enhance contrast which make them a great choice for all snow sports and off road cycling as well as other sports.

If you are considering the lighter sunglass tint colors make sure the color distortion is not a problem for your activity such as on road driving.

However, Polarized Lenses are by far better than just a lens tint. Most in the optical field would not wear sunglasses without the lenses being Polarized. In rare cases Polarized Lenses would not be the ideal choice, for instance a pilot is not allowed to wear Polarized Lenses because there might be certain gauges in a cockpit that would not be seen properly through polarized lenses.

For great all around conditions you should consider transition lenses which darken with bright sunny light but lighten the tint if there is not ultraviolet light present. If you need prescrition eyeglasses then you can order your prescription lenses to include transisions so that you have one pair of eyewear that works both inside or outside and in bright light or low light conditions.

For even more conditions you should consider Drivewear lenses which are similar to transitions except they also darken in bright sunlight even behind the windshield of your vehicle AND they INCLUDE polarized lenses. So Drivewear lenses eyeglasses/sunglasses work great in any condition.

Here's are some advantages to certain colors and the best sports for each color:
